Nina Simone & Richie HavensThis photo is so Epic to me! Nina Simone was one of Richie’s earliest & biggest influences. In his autobiography he mentioned how much of a muse she was to him and how performing with her was a major highlight in his life. She also covered one of the songs he wrote entitled, “No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed”. As you’ve probably read, Mr. Havens made his transition yesterday on April 22, while Nina made hers the day before on April 21 in 2003. I say that to highlight the cosmic connection between the two souls, which is just as evident in the music they both made. In my imagination this photo is what the afterlife looks like. Like Music, Dancing, Peace, Freedom, Beauty & Connection. Like here on earth when we are in the Here and Now. Like Bold Souls stirring light, sound and color in a storm of good vibrations.
